Bible Passage: 2 Kings 20:1–11
Memory Verse:
“I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will heal you.” – 2 Kings 20:5 (NIV)
A King Who Got Sick
King Hezekiah was a good king who loved and obeyed God. He helped the people of Judah worship the one true God and destroyed the idols they used to bow down to. But one day, something very sad happened—Hezekiah got very sick.
The prophet Isaiah came to visit him with a serious message from God. Isaiah said, “Hezekiah, get your house in order, because you are going to die. You will not recover.”
Those words broke the king’s heart. Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and began to cry and pray. With tears streaming down his cheeks, he said, “Lord, remember how I have walked before You faithfully and served You with all my heart.”
He didn’t complain or blame God. He just poured out his heart in honest prayer.
God Heard His Prayer
Before Isaiah even left the palace, God spoke to him again! God said, “Go back and tell Hezekiah that I have heard his prayer and seen his tears. I will heal him, and I will add fifteen more years to his life.”
Wow! What an amazing answer to prayer!
As a sign of His promise, God made the shadow on the sundial go backward—something only God could do! It was proof that Hezekiah would be healed, just as God said.
Three Lessons to Remember
-
God Listens to Our Prayers – When Hezekiah prayed with all his heart, God heard him. We can always talk to God—when we’re sick, sad, or scared. He always listens.
-
It’s Okay to Cry to God – Hezekiah didn’t hide his tears. God understands our emotions and cares deeply when we’re hurting.
-
God Can Do the Impossible – God made time move backward as a sign of His power! Nothing is too hard for Him. When we trust God, He can do miracles in our lives too.
A Simple Prayer
“Dear God, thank You for always hearing my prayers. Help me to trust You, even when I feel weak or afraid. I know You can do anything, and Your plans for me are good. Amen.”
